Regulatory & Compliance
Understanding the rules for commercial drone operations in the United States.
FAA Part 107
Commercial drone operations in the United States are regulated by the FAA under Part 107. This applies to any drone operation conducted for business purposes, including delivery, surveying, inspection, and research.
Part 107 Requirements
Remote Pilot Certificate
To fly the Stork commercially, you need an FAA Remote Pilot Certificate. This requires passing the Part 107 knowledge test at an FAA-approved testing center. The test covers airspace, weather, regulations, and operations. No flight hours are required.
Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS)
The Stork is designed for long-range autonomous missions, which typically require BVLOS operations. Under current FAA rules, BVLOS requires a Part 107 waiver. The waiver application process involves demonstrating safety mitigations, detect-and-avoid capabilities, and operational procedures.
